The art of writing is the art of applying the seat of the pants to
the seat of the chair -Mary Heaton Vorse
But you have so much going on in your job that there are times when this feels like an
impossible mission. Wordsmith can help.
Wordsmiths principal is Lynne Franklin, who has more than 20 years of experience in
business communication.
She has warmed chairs on many sides
of the industry: an investor relations agency executive, a public relations account
representative, an organizational communications consultant, a banking and finance
journalist, and she established the public relations department at a Fortune 1000 service
company.
Lynne has led Wordsmith for more than eight years. Here
are some of the industries she has served in the last one alone:
- Biotechnology (BioSante Pharmaceuticals,
Inc., Molecular Biosystems, Inc.)
- Customer Care and Billing (CSG Systems
International, Inc.)
- E-Commerce/Websites (Classified Ventures,
Inc.)
- Education (DeVry Incorporated)
- Distribution (Anixter International, Inc.;
United Stationers, Inc.; School Specialties, Inc.)
- Diversified Companies (The Manitowoc
Company, Inc.)
- Hair Restoration Surgery (Robert Thomas
Medical, Inc.)
- Equipment Leasing (National Equipment
Services, Inc.)

Care, Inc.)
- Consumer Market Research (Insights and
Innovations)
- Pharmaceuticals (Option Care, Inc.)
- Public Relations (Edelman Public Relations
Worldwide)
("It's my low threshold for
boredom!" she says.)
Before this, as vice president of The Financial Relations Board, Lynne managed some of the
company's largest investor relations programs and was noted for saving troubled accounts.
While there, she won awards for speech writing, merger/acquisition planning, headquarters
meetings with investors, media relations training, annual and quarterly reports, white
papers, and shareholder relations programs.
In the last several years, Lynne received awards each year for annual report excellence:
- MerComm Inc.'s ARC Competition (judged by
public relations and design executives),
- National Association of Investors
Corporation (judged by individual investors),
- Equities Magazine (judged by
financial writers), and
- Financial World Magazine (judged
by industry analysts until it folded in 1998).
She has given presentations before the
National Investor Relations Institute (NIRI), the International Association of Business
Communicators (IABC), and Women in Communications, Inc.
She is a member of NIRI and the Independent Writers of Chicago.
Lynne is listed in the current
editions of Stathmore's Who's Who, Maquis' Who's Who in America, Who's Who of American Women and Who's Who in
the Midwest, and The American Biographical Institutes International Who's
Who of Professional and Business Women.
